This week’s Missed Connection isn’t so much a missed opportunity, but rather an educated observation on the whole ‘Missed Connection’ business. This crazy cat lady with library computer privileges intelligent poster states what we who love the lovely, lonely, and lost, might have missed when perusing our beloved ads, that most Missed Connections are way too vague, and that the posters would be too afraid to approach the person they are writing about offline in real life.
So my question for this scholar of human nature, is, why do you keep on reading them? Aside from actually trying to find someone who will love you for you in all your originality. Why do I read them? Why are we so caught up on trying to find someone who will miss us? If we all had someone to come home to at night (note to self: your roommate and bottle of Wild Turkey is NOT a someone), someone who would miss us for a day, would we still feel the need to browse these ads, looking for ourselves in them, places we have been, hoping that someone in this city notices our specialness?
This astute observer shouldn’t be so quick to judge the vagueness of the ads, because if they were all more specific, it wouldn’t give crazy cat ladies and people like me hope for real love. So gloss those details, you lonely people of the world, take every blonde/smiling/bicycle missed connection and make it your own. Vague on, comrades, vague on.
Hmmm….observation

Why does almost every Missed Connection state … “I would have talked to you but …. I was with my friends … or You were with your friends … or ????” We all know that you would NOT have just stopped that person and talked to them.
And why are they so vague? Saying something like .. I saw you downtown, you had blonde hair and smiled … just doesn’t cut it. How many people smile downtown with blonde hair over the course of a day. Be more specific.
