Last week’s Missed Connection involved a small contest in which readers had to guess the mystery item in the mystery lady’s shopping cart. I thank all of you who commented, and although all the answers were very good, there can only be one winner. Now, upon first reading, I suspected that it could be a lonely ex-boyfriend of mine, but I was delighted to find out it was a chap named Peter who was the proud winner of a picture of a killer whale and a swig of bourbon from the bottle for his answer of “a couple of long SKIS“.

I lured this reader into my tiny kitchen, had a wee chat with him and presented him with his prize. Peter says that he reads Craigslist Missed Connections, but prefers reading about them through a lonely, mildly boozy, filter like on TWH. Although he was a little disappointed (“Only on principle”, he says), that this was the week I forsook the turkey for a bottle of Jim Beam (which he prefers anyway), he was impressed with the beautiful drawing of a killer whale and assures me that he will put it on his desk at work (which I suspect might be out of politeness). He doesn’t own a pair of skis, but has been cross-country skiing^[1], and when asked if he has ever posted a Missed Connection, he slyly answered, “Not that I’d admit to”. Aside from lurking in dangerous internet places like Two Word Heap, Peter leads, according to him,  “a very sexy and exciting life”.

After finishing his drink, we chatted some more about his preference for Rachel Leigh Cook (he looks like the type who’d be into that sort), he thanked me for his picture and awkwardly shuffled out of my apartment. So thank you, Peter, for giving me a good answer and I hope you enjoy your picture and hopefully in the near future there will be another contest for you all to win beautiful drawings of animals. Until then, keep on pining, comrades.
