@hangar24's tasting flight..

I received an email today from Ling Chan over at Sinuate Media, an Organic Marketing Company that is currently assisting their client in their online PR outreach for a new GEICO Video Parody campaign. Yay!

The email

Hi there, How are you? My name is Ling Chan and I am an Account Executive with Sinuate Media, an Organic Marketing Company that is currently assisting our client in their online PR outreach for a new GEICO Video Parody campaign. In this campaign, GEICO is taking the humorous tone of its commercials and integrating the GEICO Gecko into nine popular YouTube videos. These videos will involve the Gecko and some of YouTube’s most famous stars! To watch these videos, feel free to log on to: http://www.youtube.com/user/itsthegecko. I am just wondering if you will be able to help us share the videos with your readers? Please let me know if you are interested in these videos and if you can help us spread the word. I look forward to hearing from you. Best, Best, Ling Chan Sinuate Media, LLC – The Organic Marketing Company

The Response

Ling Chan,

Hello Ling, my name is Tyler Hauser and I am the Editor and Administrator of Two Word Heap. I received your message in regards to GEICO’s new Video Parody campaign.

While I am interested in the idea behind the campaign, I feel the quality of the videos does not meet our own quality standards. What I mean by this is that these videos just aren’t very funny. Or good, for that matter. If the comments on each video are any indication, people don’t seem to enjoy these parody’s at all. The gecko is poorly animated AND rendered, popping out of the video like a cutout pasted to my computer monitor and he moves like a robotic muppet. Clearly, this gecko was not created by the same team behind the original commercials. This alone sets these videos apart in a very bad way. Couple that with the dated choices in videos to parody and you’ve got an irrelevant and ineffective campaign.

For these and many other reasons, I am unable to present these videos to my readers. Thank you for the opportunity.

Obviously, I am actually presenting these to you, but not really in the light I’m sure they would like.

Am I being too harsh on these pieces of shit art? Am I not giving them enough credit? Or should these videos be banished to the furthest depths of the YouTube archives to rest in peace alongside the likes of this guy or this chick?

    There are a lot of useless videos on YouTube. These need to be ignored, along with the rest of them.
