Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Richard Jenkins for The Visitor (2007/I)
Frank Langella for Frost/Nixon (2008)
Sean Penn for Milk (2008)
Brad Pitt for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler (2008)
Heapster Predictions
Carlene:
Winner: Mickey Rourke
David:
Winner: Sean Penn
Yaschuk:
Richard Jenkins. Rooting for the underdog, here. I can see this going to Rourke or Penn.
Winner: Richard Jenkins
Marshall:
In a different year, I really wish that Richard Jenkins could win. He is one of those people that have been in so many films but no one knows his name. He definitely deserves it. This is a race between Penn and Rourke. While I think that Penn put in a better performance, I think the Oscar will go to Rourke.
Winner: Mickey Rourke
Kevin:
Mickey Rourke for the Wrestler. ‘Nuff Said
Winner: Mickey Rourke
Tyler:
Definitely a tough call between Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke.
Winner: Mickey Rourke
Grant:
This is probably the closest race between ALL the nominees… Even though Richard Jenkins had a better performance this year in Step Brothers, his performance in The Visitor is one of the best this year. But, sadly, it is SO UNDER PROMOTED that he just can’t win. And if they don’t give it to Rourke… he will go on a 47 week drug and alcohol bender, that ends with him flying into a plane… forcing it to land on a river…
Winner: Mickey Rourke

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married (2008)
Angelina Jolie for Changeling (2008)
Melissa Leo for Frozen River (2008)
Meryl Streep for Doubt (2008/I)
Kate Winslet for The Reader (2008)
Heapster Predictions
Carlene:
I would love to say St. Jolie, but Kate Winslet should take this easily. Then again, it was no contest, because Mamma Mia! was mysteriously shut out of this years Oscars, and nobody would have stood a chance against Meryl Streep in that.
Winner: Kate Winslet
David:
As much as I dislike Jolie… I loved this movie and, in turn, actually enjoyed her performance in this film.
Winner: Angelina Jolie
Yaschuk:
Anne Hathaway (actually, as long as Meryl Streep doesn’t get this, I will be happy)
Winner: Anne Hathaway
Marshall:
Anne Hathaway had a great performance, and may be the favourite to win. However, after being snubbed so often in the past, I think this will be Winslet’s year.
Winner: Kate Winslet
Kevin:
Kate Winslet. She is a tremendously talented actress and I do believe she has earned this many times over.
Winner: Kate Winslet
Tyler:
I didn’t actually get a chance to see any of these films, except Doubt. But I’m going to root for Kate Winslet.
Winner: Kate Winslet
Grant:
WOW, this is such a two horse race it isn’t even FUNNY. It is rather funny that the race is between someone that the Academy has praised time and time again with awards, and someone who has been teased year after year with nominations. It is time to give it to Winslet out of fear of 3 things:
- Homicidal spree.
- She eats her tears away and gains 187 lbs.
- She quits acting… FOREVER…
Winner: Kate Winslet
