Never before have I felt so empowered whilst watching a film than when I watched 300. I could feel the testosterone course through my body as I witnessed intense scenes of bravery and perseverance. I felt as though I were part of a fight worth fighting; the good fight; the fight for real, personal freedom. The story of 300 is based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, by the same name, concerning the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae. In one of the most famous last stands in history, the King of Sparta and 300 Spartan soldiers battled to their death against the Persian King, Xerxes and his million man army.

Easily one of the best films I’ve ever seen, this is a refreshingly inspiring film filled with plenty of emotion and heart. King Leonidas is the most dynamic character I’ve seen on film in quite some time, conveying undying love through a twinkle in his eye one minute to shoving spears through naughty Persians the next. Many of the characters have layer after layer gently peeled away, for even a second, time and time again throughout the film. But please don’t get me wrong; although 300 spews passion from every cinematic orifice, it has all the gore and violence any meat-eating man could ever want. That means plenty of decapitations for those of you against people with heads.

I highly recommend 300 to anyone with even a mild interest in modern cinema. I was simply blown away.
