This weekend is actually a really good weekend. Here are this weekend’s “Goods”:
- Good Thriller Blockbuster (that won’t bust blocks)
- Good Charming Spies (that will make a couple of bucks)
- Good Comedy Buddy Flick (I mean GREAT!)
- Good Ensemble Indie (With STEVE ZAHN! AGAIN?)
Knowing
There are many reasons to hate this flick. There are. If you don’t know what I am talking about, just go view most flicks Nick Cage as done since Face/Off. Nick has plummeted off the deep end and has done nothing to prove he deserves that Oscar. This being said, Oscar quality acting isn’t needed in a Thriller such as this, and he will be under the close watch of a man whose movies I have a huge affection for, Alex Proyas[1] His involvement gives me hope.
Whether or Not?!: YES.
I think this flick is going to be good. Should this be your first choice this weekend… OF COURSE NOT, but if you feel like taking in 3 or 4 new movies this weekend, you shouldn’t be disappointed.
Notables: Alex Proyas, Nicolas Cage, and Ra Chapman[2]
Duplicity
JULIA ROBERTS! God… What am I to say about this flick?! I dislike her so much…
OH WELL! I must look past her involvement…
A great cast (sans one) and a great vibe for this flick, gives me hope. This movie is promising BUT, all that being said, it could be the WORST thing since sliced bread[3]. So the question is: What will win out? Tony Gilroy’s brilliance, or the studio’s need to make things suck?
Whether or Not?!: WAIT!
Please, don’t see this in the theater (no one is listening)… I think it is going to be good enough to check out on DVD, but not worth 14 bucks. This flick seems like it will be a bit dominated by ridiculousness AND Julia is in it… She is strikes 1 through 3, and she’s the reason the Empire came back after A New Hope’s beat down.
Notables: Tony Gilroy, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts, Tom Wilkinson, and Paul Giamatti
I Love You, Man
The undeniable Goliath coming into the weekend is this flick. There is more buzz surrounding this that bee hives are calling in noise complaints… AND Jon Favreau answered a question I had about this flick via Twitter… SO ALL THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD!
Obviously, it stars someone who can’t do anything wrong in the eyes of anyone right now[4] but Paul Rudd is America’s darling. He is such a darling that even Paul Rudd’s next movie, that is completely self produced, will gross 100 million dollars… and that movie is of course called Hi I’m Paul Rudd: Watch What I Can Do With My Bowel Movement.
Here comes the trailer…[5]

Whether or Not?!: YES OF COURSE!
This is the movie to see this weekend!! It was the second movie that I was looking forward to, and I will be there as fast as I can to check it out. And by “as fast as I can”, I mean “next week some time”.
See this movie because everyone else will see it, and if MADEA had to open #1… THIS BETTER!!!
Notables: Paul Rudd, John Hamburg, Rashida Jones, Jaime Pressly, Jon Favreau, Jane Curtin, J.K. Simmons[6], Andy Samberg, Thomas Lennon, Jason Segel, and Matt Walsh
The Great Buck Howard [limited]
The first thing about this movie to take note of is the cast. The second thing to take note of is the filmmaker. The third thing to take note of is Steve Zahn’s involvement.
It has a great cast of people, with 2 of the best actors with the last name ‘Hanks’ displaying their stuff. Just on casting alone, I’m excited. The subject matter is also intriguing. A young man in law school quits school and becomes a road manager for a Has-Been magician who used to be the greatest Magician to ever wave a magic wand.
Whether or Not?!: YES.
If you can find it, this is the best movie to be released this weekend. It is going to be great, and could very will snake a couple Academy Award nominations for the cast (AT LEAST MALCOVICH). It might take some effort to find a theater showing it but, trust me, it is worth it.
Notables: Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks, John Malkovich, Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn, George Takei, Conan O’Brien, Don Most, Ricky Jay, and Tom Arnold
