Ironically, this is the worst weekend of the month, but it has quite possibly the best movie of the month. I will give you a hint as to what it is: It doesn’t star Tom Hanks…
Angels & Demons
This is what holds the place for the M.A.M.O.T.Y. for this weekend, but it doesn’t really have many people lining up behind it. No one really claims that this is their M.A.M.O.T.Y. at all, and it is with great reason. Its predecessor, The Da Vinci Code, was just horrible and there wasn’t anything good about it at all, except for Paul Bettany. It was probably the biggest disappointment for 2006. That being said, could Angels & Demons do a better job at capturing the quality that the books captured? Most people that I know that read books – and I quietly mock – all said that Angels & Demons was a much better book than the much-hyped Da Vinci Code.
So let’s see…
Whether or Not?!: Yes…
But honestly, a Yes if you have caught up on your other M.A.M.O.T.Y.’s thus far, and you have no access to the next flick in my list.
This movie’s trailer has the quote “Surpasses The Da Vinci Code in every perceivable way” but, honestly, that is kinda like saying something like “Surpasses shitting a 17-inch-wide flaming sword that is covered in hundreds of thousands of tinier flaming swords in every perceivable way”… The last flick was so bad that of course this one is better!
NOOOOOW, that being said, this flick is actually going to be pretty decent. I think they learned a lot of lessons from the last flick and it will be a great action-thriller. There is absolutely no chance it will be around for Oscar gold, but it will be a great popcorn flick.
Notables: Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgård, and Akiva Goldsman.
The Brothers Bloom
Great cast, great plot, awesome all over it… Why does such a movie exist in the summer? Because it is bigger than your normal artsy fare, and they are trying to market it as a bigger type flick. I, personally, would rather it be a big small flick in a pond with a bunch of small flicks, but they would rather it be released as a small big flick in an ocean with a bunch of giant fucking flicks… It’s like fat anorexic ballet dancer going up against a sumo wrestler.
Oh wait, I am suppose to talk about this movie!
The thing that is exciting about this movie is that it is written and directed by Rian Johnson who has already made a huge impact on the film world with one awesome flick, Brick.
Whether or Not?!: YES…
If you can find this flick, you should see it.
Artists like this and movies like this need to be supported. We need to tell the movie industry that we want movies like this! This is going to be superbly acted and deftly crafted. Brick was an amazingly large-scoped story in a brilliantly tiny world. So please don’t steal this movie, pay for it. They need to know that you liked it!

Jennifer Aniston in a movie… so thusly we get to hear a lot of stuff about Brad Pitt, Angie, and the “feud”… Great.
Anyways, as for the movie, there really doesn’t look like that there is much here. Most of you that know me will know that I think any movie with Steve Zahn in it is worth a watch, but I am not to sure if this is reason enough or not…
Whether or NOT?!: Yeah… NO!
This flick is just going to be a re-hashing of many different ideas of the past. Not worth a look, not worth a look ever… aside from free on TV.
So please wait this out ’til you make it a premium channel to check it out!

Preliminary reports in for A&D is that the movie is horrible… but I am still sticking with the fact that it is going to be ok… never expected it to be good or anything though.
